The ugliness. ________________________________________________________________
By now, most of us should know that chinese new year is round the corner.

There are always signs and symptoms around you, just take a closer look. Walking towards jurong point last week, i was greeted with the remix version of "zhen yue chu yi tou yi tian". Yes, if you're familiar with boon lay, you'll know that walking through this rural part of the island is no easy feat.

This year especially, an increasing number of people are throwing themselves along the walkway towards the ever busy JP. As you walk from the interchange towards the shopping mall, everyone of the people along the way simply look worse than the one before.

First, it'll start with the blind karaoke aunty ( the one who sang the new year song) which isn't too bad cause she's still pretty entertaining. Then, you move along to the old aunty selling tissue, which still isn't too bad because they are all over the place these days so we're kinda immune.

Then, the guilt trip starts official.

Walk a few more steps and you see a man without a leg, clad in dirty brown clothes lying with a paper cup in hand. Feel guilty that you still aren't taking out your wallet? Walk a couple more steps and you see his almost twin sprawled on the concrete pavement, this time round this guy's missing two legs. By now, you'll be compelled to take out your wallet or at least those change tinkling in your pockets. The last thing you want is to walk a couple more steps and find another guy with more missing body parts begging you to spare him that $1.40 you were planning to spend on breadtalk's pork floss bun.

So now, i avoid walking towards JP. It's hard to imagine that while i chomp down my favorite $1.20 kaya waffle from prima deli, some guy out there missing some body parts can't even afford a slice of bread.

To me, that's a pretty ugly sight of singapore. While financial advisor loiter the same pavement trying to get people to invest their spare cash, these folks are sprawled there begging for cash.

Travis - Flowers in the Window

There's no reason to feel bad
But there are many reasons to feel glad, sad, mad
Its just a bunch of feelings that we have to hold
But i am here to help you with the load.

Wow look at you now
Flowers in the window
It's such a lovely day
And i am glad that you feel the same
Cause to stand up i'm in the crowd
You're one in a million
And i love you so, so lets watch the flowers grow.
